Funeral For 17-Year-Old Pinecrest Student Held Tuesday


Tuesday morning family and friends of 17-year-old Brycen Mabe gathered in the Pinecrest High School Auditorium where the funeral service for the rising high school Senior was held.


There was a large turnout including many students wearing their football jersey. Parking In the auditorium parking lot and other areas quickly filled to capacity as students and members of the community joined the family with their final goodbyes for Brycen.


Brycen Gray Mabe was born on July 29, 2006, in Pinehurst to parents Steve Allen Mabe and Patsy Odom Mabe.


The teen passed away on June 10, 2024, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill following a vehicle accident that had occurred in Southern Pines on June 6, 2024. 


An aspiring professional football player, Brycen was a dedicated member of the Pinecrest High School football team where he proudly wore the number 91. 



Bycen's life motto was "Pain Is Temporary, Jesus Is Forever". He was saved on November 4, 2016, and was a member of Middle Cross Baptist Church in West End.


He Is survived by both of his parents, sister Krissanie Talabac and husband Cameron of Texas, brother Princeton Mabe of Carthage, maternal grandmother Alice Locklear of Rockingham, maternal grandfathers Norman Odom Sr of Lenoir, paternal grandmother Mary Louise Mabe of Jackson Springs, two nephews Andrew and Tyler Talabac and a third nephew Lance Talabac due in September 2024.


The service at Pinecrest was followed by Interment at Flinty Knoll Church Cemetery on Mabe Lane in Ellerbe.


Fry & Pricket Funeral Home in Carthage has assisted the family through this tragic loss for them and our community.

Thank you for this tribute for my son. Our hearts are so very heavy, and we miss him SO very much, but I am CONFIDENT that he is much more alive now than ever before! 💔🙏🏼❤️‍🩹💙💞
