Aberdeen Welcomes New Deputy Police Chief

The Town of Aberdeen Police Department has a new Deputy Police Chief.

Although he has been on the job a couple of weeks now, 46-year-old Deputy Chief Dysoaneik Spellman was officially sworn in at the Aberdeen Town Board Meeting on Monday night and takes the reins as the number two ranking officer in the department.

His grandmother held the Bible while Deputy Chief Spellman took the Oath of office tonight.

I had the opportunity to sit down with the new Deputy Chief Monday morning to learn more about him.

Raised in Beaufort County in Eastern North Carolina Deputy Chief Spellman began his law enforcement career with the Sheriff's Office there in 1999.

Deputy Chief Spellman has a BA in Criminal Justice Administration, an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology, and is a graduate of the Management Development program with the NC Justice Academy. He also holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate.

Deputy Chief Spellman comes to us from his most recent position as the Police Chief in Spring Lake located in Cumberland County.

In Aberdeen, the Deputy Chief will work as the right-hand for Chief Brian Chavis as the Chief continues his goals to take the department to the next level.

This includes bringing the department into compliance with State Accreditation which covers the department's many policies and procedures.

A strong Deputy Chief more or less takes care of the departments day to day operations freeing the Chief to look at the big picture and manage the department effectively.

Deputy Chief Spellman will become a strong asset to the team of incredible men and women that make up the Aberdeen Police Department.

If you see Deputy Chief Spellman around town please take the time to give him a warm Aberdeen hello and welcome him into our community.
