ARRESTS MADE IN TAYLORTOWN SHOOTING INCIDENT


Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announces the arrest of two individuals following a shooting investigation in the Taylortown area of Moore County.


On September 1, 2024, at approximately 1:36 AM, Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Juniper Lake Road in Taylortown.


Upon arrival, deputies located a 26-year-old male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg. The victim was transported to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment.

Following the shooting, detectives identified Dectrek Kochevse Dontrai Barrett, 44, as a suspect. Barrett fled the scene upon deputies' arrival and remained at large until his apprehension on September 10, 2024.


In the course of the investigation, sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at his residence, where they seized various controlled substances and firearms. Barrett was arrested on warrants obtained in connection with the shooting and the drugs and firearms found in his home.

As the investigation progressed, Diamond Keaira Barrett, 30, was also identified as being involved in the shooting. She was arrested without incident on September 4, 2024.


Dectrek Barrett, of West End, NC, is charged with multiple offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for controlled substances, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held under a 48-hour hold based on HB813. His court date is scheduled for September 19, 2024, in Moore County District Court.

Diamond Barrett, also of West End, NC, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and communicating threats. She is being held on a $10,000 secured bond, with a court date set for September 19, 2024, in Moore County District Court.


All defendants facing charges are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
