Close Call For Carthage Woman After Dryer Fire Tuesday Evening

Emergency responders were dispatched to a structure fire Tuesday at 5:45 pm on Niagara Carthage Road at the intersection of Holly Circle just outside of Carthage.

The first arriving firefighters reported smoke showing from the rear of a single story home.

Shortly after arriving firefighters were notified that there was one occupant still inside of the smoke filled home. Firefighters made entry and after locating her they carried the woman to safety.

The female victim was transprted to the hospital by ambulance with reported smoke inhalation injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

A second person and a small dog were able to get out of the home unharmed.

Firefighters made entry through a rear door of the home finding a clothes dryer that was on fire. According to fire officials they were able to extinguish the fire before it could extend into the structure.

Responding this evening were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire Rescue, Eastwood Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff's Office, and the Moore County Fire Marshals Office.

This is why you should never leave a clothes dryer on when sleeping or away.
