Emergency responders were dispatched to Homeward Kitchen, located on US Highway 15-501 in Southern Pines around 9:20 a.m. for a reported fryer that had caught on fire. Firefighters quickly arrived at the restaurant with multiple units.
According to a fire official at the scene, a fryer in Homeward Kitchen's restaurant had caught on fire. However, a quick thinking employee closed the lid containing the fire to the fryer extinguishing the fire.
Fire officials checked to ensure that the fire was indeed extinguished and that there were no hazards before turning the restaurant back over to the staff a short time later.
Responding today were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, and the Southern Pines Police Department. Other stations had been dispatched but were canceled once it was determined that the fire was under control.
