Fatal Accident On US Highway 15-501 Saturday

Emergency responders were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on US Highway 15-501 near Boggs Road between Pinehurst and Carthage shortly after 7:00 pm Saturday evening.

US Highway 15-501 was closed to traffic in both directions at Dobbs Chapel Road on the Carthage end and NC Highway 73 on the Pinehurst end.

The Land Rover that was involved had overturned causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

When firefighters first reached the scene a female victim was reported to be on the roadway unresponsive. It was determined that the victim was deceased.

To ensure that there was no one else in the vehicle firefighters cut off the front and rear passenger doors to make entry. No other people were found in the car.

Due to a child seat and many child items found in the car as well as toys and sippy cups on the ground around the scene, fire and law enforcement conducted an extensive search of both sides of the road into the edge of the woods before it could get dark. Thankfully there were not any other victims located.

Responding were units with Eastwood Fire Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff's Office, and the NC State Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol was on the scene conducting an accident investigation into this incident as of this report.

After being closed almost two hours US Highway 15-501 reopened to normal traffic just after 9:00 pm.

This is a breaking story more details to follow.
