Fatal Vehicle Accident Involving Passenger Car & Dump Truck Tuesday In Carthage

Emergency responders were dispatched to a vehicle accident on US Highway 15-501 near McNeill Street in Carthage just before 9:30 am Tuesday.


The accident involved two dump trucks and a passenger car with the car and one of the dump trucks reportedly colliding head-on.


The adult male driver of the passenger car was determined to be deceased at the scene. The victim was identified by the Carthage Police Department as 56 year old Sean Leon Watson from Aberdeen.


According to emergency officials there were no other injuries reported in today's accident.

Witnesses stated that the passenger car was driving north on 15-501 when it crossed the center line colliding with a southbound dump truck head-on.


There was a fuel spill from one of the dump trucks involved leaving a large area that had to be addressed by emergency officials. NC DOT responded with sand to assist absorbing the spilled fuel.

US Highway 15-501 was blocked to traffic an extended time period as the accident was investigated and the roadway cleared.


Responding today were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, the Medical Examiners Office, Moore County Public Safety, NC Department Of Transportation, the Moore County Sheriff's Office, and Carthage Police Department.
