Firefighters Perform CPR On US 1 In Southern Pines


Emergency responders were dispatched to a possible vehicle accident just before 9:00 am Saturday on US Highway 1 near North May Street for reports a pickup had ran off of the road striking a guardrail.


As soon as the first emergency vehicle arrived on the scene officials reported CPR in progress.


The 71 year old male victim was transported to the hospital in Pinehurst by ambulance.


One northbound lane and and one southbound lane of US Highway 1 was blocked by emergency vehicles responding to this incident today.


According to the Highway Patrol the man had been helping a family member move this morning before this incident occurred.


The truck traveled almost 1000 feet from the position it initially left the road to where it came to a stop against the guardrail. There was minimal damage to the pickup involved.


Responding were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff's Office, and the NC State Highway Patrol.


The incident remains under investigation as of this report.


Update: According to Southern Pines Fire Chief Mike Cameron the driver passed away following this incident.
