Hattie Elizabeth Dowdy Steadwell, aged 82, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Carthage, North Carolina where she was also born on July 30, 1941 to the late Milton Dowdy and Geneva Clegg Dowdy Cummings. Known for her selfless nature, Hattie consistently placed the needs of others above her own and was quick to forgive. She found joy in the little things in life such as fishing, bringing laughter to others, and bringing her family together.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howard Steadwell and brother, Newton Dowdy.
Hattie is survived by her sons, Douglas Steadwell (Phyllis) and Charles Steadwell (Carmen) both of Carthage; daughter, Christa Steadwell of Aberdeen. She also leaves behind her brothers, Milton Dowdy (Claudette) and Jerry Dowdy (Jackie), along with her sisters, Peggy Dowd (John) and Cynthia Dowdy. As well as 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A service to honor Hattie’s life will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Mount Olive Zion Church. The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
