According to North Carolina's Weather Authority, we are on track for a mini heatwave starting Friday the 21st and lasting into early next week.
It will be hot - some of the hottest air of the season and dangerous for those without proper cooling.
Highs away from the mountains and beaches will be in the mid to upper 90s with some areas hitting 100° this weekend.
Humidity will be going up, which will make the heat index values some days in the 100 to 115 degree range for some spots.
Unfortunately, there is little to no rain expected over the next 5 to 7 days, so drought conditions will worsen.
