James Newton Myrick Obituary


James Newton Myrick, 74, of Pinehurst, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, with his family by his side. He was a native of Moore County, born on November 21, 1949, at Moore Memorial Hospital, Jim enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life.


Jim was a proud graduate of NC State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Jim was a lifelong passionate Wolfpack fan and a dedicated member and president of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.


Jim enjoyed a successful 26-year career at CP&L before founding Myrick Appraisal Services, which he ran in Moore County for over 30 years. He was deeply committed to his community, serving as Captain and Paramedic of the Seven Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and co-founding the Seven Lakes Volunteer Rescue Squad.


He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Shelia Dunlap Myrick of Pinehurst; children, Jason Bradford Myrick (wife Dolly) of Raleigh and Jamie Elizabeth Myrick of Pinehurst; grandchildren, Aubrey Jae Myrick, James Battle Myrick, and William Bradford Myrick; and sisters, Nancy Owens and Worthy McKenzie. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Roscoe and Bernice Myrick, and his brother, Randy Myrick.


Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, golf, and building projects. He loved traveling, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and was immensely proud of his family. Jim will be remembered for his creativity, problem-solving skills, and unwavering dedication to his community and family.


A Celebration of Life will be from 5 until 8 PM, Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Moore County Hounds Clubhouse, 946 Sheldon Road, Southern Pines, NC.
