Joseph William Corbett
Joseph William Corbett

Joseph William Corbett, 86, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024 in Pinehurst, NC with his family by his side. He fought courageously for 10 years while battling dementia/Alzheimers, but is now whole again and in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Joe “Bunny” was born in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1937. Growing up in the Monessen Valley, Joe most loved spending time with his very large Frew family as he grew into the apple of everyone’s eye.

In February of 1961, Joe married the love of his life, Judith Genovese, and they had 3 wonderful children as they moved around the country for his career with SwissAir.

Aviation and serving his clients was one of his biggest passions. After working for SwissAir for 33 years, he retired and enjoyed working in his yard as well as spending time flying around to see his large extended family. Retirement didn’t last long, Joe always had the itch to be a part of the airlines which resulted in him joining Delta Airlines as the oldest flight attendant ever to graduate from the program at that time. He served as an onboard leader for international routes for over 10 years before finally settling down in Raleigh for a true retirement.

Bunny never met a stranger. Throughout his life Joe was a true testimony of what it means to be a loving Christian who invested in people. Whether he served as a deacon at his church or volunteering at Raleigh Durham International Airport at the information desk, Joe made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

Although his time here on earth is done, his legacy will live on through generations of friends and family who always knew that Joe was one of a kind.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judith, his mother and father, Joseph and Dorothy Corbett, his daughter Valerie Everette and his brothers Donald and David (Joy) Corbett.

He leaves behind his son Eric (Tracy) Corbett of Pinehurst, NC and his daughter Karin (Jon) Potter of Southern Pines, NC.

Joe was also a proud grandfather and will be deeply missed by his grandson Jonathan Potter of Pinehurst, NC, granddaughters Sarah Everette of York, SC, Nicole (Justin) Hall of Carthage, NC, grandson Kyle Corbett of Charlotte, NC and granddaughter Karsen Corbett of Charlotte, NC.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, July 8, 2024 for a visitation from 1-2pm with a celebration of life following at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, NC at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Joseph W. Corbett to First Health Hospice 150 Applecross Rd Pinehurst, NC 28374.
