Maurice Vincent Smith, 82 of Pinehurst, passed away on July 4, 2024, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Born on August 27, 1941, in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late Hubert and Helen Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Mary “Mundie” Smith in 2021.
Maurice is survived by three children, Margaret Smith Mullally, Maurice Thomas Smith, and Parthenia Ann Dinora; also survived by seven grandchildren, Betsy, Sean, and Brendan Mullally, Maurice and Timothy Smith, and Bridget and Damon Dinora.
Maurice graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in chemistry. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Mundie Murphy. His first job was as a chemist for Uniroyal, after which he moved into sales and management positions for various companies based in New York, Milan, and Southern California. In his mid-thirties, he earned a master of science degree in chemistry. He was still brokering rubber and plastics transactions up until the last month of his life.
Maurice was a formidable golfer, an accomplished gardener, and he could fix or build anything.
A man of few words and a tireless worker, people always wanted to hear what he had to say.
A memorial mass and burial will take place on Block Island, Rhode Island, at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
