New York Man Held Under $1,000,000 Bond Following Sheriff's Office Investigation Into Exploitation Of Elderly Victim

Sheriff Ronnie Fields announces an arrest following an investigation in the Seagrove area of Moore County.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024 the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report for obtaining property by false pretense and exploitation of an elderly victim in the Seagrove area of Moore County. The suspect obtained money from the victim by posing as Apple security and the FBI .

On Thursday, March 14, 2024 Sheriff’s investigators arrested Xiaojun Zhu, age 30 , of Brooklyn, New York. Zhu was charged with one count of felony obtaining property by false pretense, one count of felony accessing computers, one count of felony exploitation of an elder adult, one count of felony possession of cocaine, one count of felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and four counts of resisting a public officer.

Zhu was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $1,000,000.00 secured bond pending a first court appearance in Moore County District Court on March 25, 2024.
