Notice of Title IX Complaint Against Moore County Schools

PFLAG of Southern Pines, PSA: Public School Advocates, and Moore County Schools educators have partnered together to file an official Title IX complaint with the Office of Civil Rights against Moore County Schools.

We are parents/grandparents, school faculty, and community members in Moore County, NC dealing with SB 49 {known as the Parents Bill of Rights) passed by the NC General Assembly last year. In Moore County, the Board of Education and school administrators took it upon themselves to pass harmful policies prior to the passage of SB 49 which includes discriminatory language that goes over and above what is required to comply with the state law.

Since Moore County Schools implementation of its own version of “The Parents Bill of Rights,” PSA: Public School Advocates, PFLAG of Southern Pines, MCS Educators, and community members have spoken out against the discriminatory language in the official Principal’s Implementation Guide to Parents Bill of Rights.

Despite our best efforts, Moore County Schools has left us with no other choice but to escalate this matter before the Office for Civil RIghts due to little or no response regarding our inquiries. We have tried to gain clarification and changes to the discriminatory policies and guidelines within our district, all of which have been met with no answers and no change.

Attached to this press release was a copy of the complaint to the Office of Civil Rights, along with a detailed request for clarification and resolution, and a timeline of events that led to the filing of this complaint.

We will share these additional documents in upcoming post.
