Emergency responders were dispatched to a vehicle accident on NC 24 27 outside of Cameron Sunday morning.
The first arriving fire unit reported a vehicle on its side with the driver pinned in the vehicle as they called for aircare to transport the patient.
According to firefighters at the scene, they had to remove the windshield and cut the steering wheel in order to free the adult female patient.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a landing zone that had been established a short distance away. Here, she met a helicopter from UNC to be airlifted to a trauma center.
NC 2427 was closed in both directions for approximately 1 hour today.
Responding were units with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff's Office.
