Otis Clariel Boroughs, 87, of Jackson Springs, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home.
Otis was born on February 15, 1937 in Jackson Springs to the late George and Conie Trogden Boroughs.
He was a 1955 graduate of West End High School and graduated from High Point University in 1961, with a Bachelor of Science. Otis married Nancy Martin on October 5, 1962. They lived in Jackson Springs on the Boroughs Family Farm. Otis was a long time member of Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church. He was always active in his church, serving as deacon, elder, church treasurer, and other positions as needed.
Otis worked for Moore County Schools for 30 years. During that time, he was Principal at Eagle Springs, taught Science and Physical Education and coached basketball at West End. He taught driver's ed throughout Moore County and finished his career as Director of Moore County School’s Driver Education program. One of the things that Otis enjoyed most was growing and carving pumpkins for friends and neighbors to come and enjoy. Otis always said “every pumpkin’s got a face on it; all you've got to do is just cut it and find it.”
In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by sisters; Viola, Opal, Jessie, Leta and Marie; brothers, Bryan, Elcoe, Hugh, Phillip, Woodrow and Duke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Martin Boroughs; daughter, Jennifer Bartholomew (Michael); son, Jeffrey Boroughs; grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew and niece, Connor and Dare McInnis, who spent many happy times on Ott’s (Otis’) Farm. He is also survived by his brother, Talmadge Boroughs.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Jackson Springs Cemetery.
