PINECREST ON SOFT LOCKDOWN AFTER REPORTED THREAT

Pinecrest High School is reportedly on a soft lockdown following an unspecified threat according to law enforcement at the scene.

An officer confirmed that they have responded today due to the unspecified threat made and have units from multiple departments here.

Units with Southern Pines Police Department, Aberdeen Police Department, Pinehurst Police, Department, Moore County Sheriff's Office, and School Resource Officer responded today.

Moore County Schools released the following:

"This afternoon, the Pinehurst Police Department received a tip of a possible threat to the Pinecrest High School campus.

In an abundance of caution, we have placed our campus in a soft-lockdown. At this time students will remain in their 4th block classrooms with limited movement. Students may not be released from campus.

Please do not report to campus until further notice. Additional law enforcement is currently on campus to provide support."

A second notice was sent from the schools a short time later stating:

"In conjunction with the Southern Pines Police Department, the Moore County Schools Police have determined the threat to be non-credible. As a result, we’ve returned to our regular schedule and will utilize our normal dismissal process this afternoon. In an abundance of caution, additional law enforcement will remain on campus.

All after school activities will occur as scheduled.

Thank you for your continued support of Pinecrest High School. As always the safety of our students and staff is our top priority."

Update: Officers are now clearing from the roads for normal school traffic to resume.
