Ricardo “Rick” Cortes, 90, of Pinehurst, passed peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Friday, June 7th.
Born in Johnstown, PA, Dec. 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Alfred and Eugenia Lozano Cortes. After his high school graduation, Rick went on to service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He had earned the rank of S/Sgt before his honorable discharge. After returning home, Rick started a career with Goodyear Tire, eventually retiring as a Development Engineer.
Rick was the loving husband of Geraldine Dowdell Cortes. He was the father of Lawrence “Larry” E. Cortes, wife Leslie, and Jim A. Cortes, wife Patricia. He was the brother of Alfred Cortes, Leonor Curley, Carmen Trabold, Isabel Sadosky and Teresa Lux. Rick is also survived by his six grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 13th, 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 300 Dundee Rd. Pinehurst. Committal prayers with military honors will be rendered at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, June 20th at 10:00 am.
Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
