Richard Charles "Dick" Hutchinson Sr., 87 of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, passed away on June 11, 2024, at The Greens of Pinehurst, NC.

 

Born on September 17, 1936, in Amherst, New York to the late Allan and Evelyn Hutchinson. In June of 1958 Nancy met his future wife Nancy Hoffman at Westover AFB, MA. One year later on 27 June 1959 Richard married Nancy in South Hadley, MA. That fall Dick got transferred to Eglin AFB, Florida.


Dick worked 20 years in the Air Force and was a Vietnam Vet. He then worked another 20+ years in the aerospace industry. 


In June of 1964, Dick and Nancy adopted their first son, Richard, Jr. (Rick). 

A year later Dick, Nancy and Rick moved to Tucson, AZ. In January of 1969 Dick and the family moved to Poway, CA. Dick enjoyed on several church committees in Poway Community Church in Poway, CA.


 In April of 1970, Dick and Nancy adopted their second son, Jim. With two sons, Dick got involved in coaching little league baseball and soccer. In September 1999 Dick and Nancy moved to Mariposa, CA. to retire. 


Dick got volunteered at the Mariposa Museum and History Center, working with the printing press making cards, invites and flyers for local events. Dick also volunteered at the Castle Air Museum, restoring aircraft and drones.


In 2019 Dick and Nancy moved to Whispering Pines with Rick and his wife Pam. Dick volunteer with the Village muckraker, organizing and cleaning the shop.

 

He is survived by his two sons, Rick Hutchinson and his wife, Pam, and Jim Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Amanda Darlington (Mike), Stephanie Smith (Mike) and Aubrey Hutchinson; also survived by six great grandchildren.

 

Dick’s ashes will be buried alongside Nancy's in South Hadley Falls, Massachusetts.


Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines.
