After a long illness, Robert L. (Bob) Newman, 84, of Pinehurst passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2024.
Bob grew up in Vestal, NY and graduated from Vestal Central High School in 1958. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Kay Mitchell. He went on to become a Mechanical Engineer with IBM. Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed spending time at their home in Sugar Mountain, NC. He was always tinkering with something and finding ways to invent what should have been obvious.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Newman. Bob is survived by his wife, Kay Newman of 62 years; brother, Gerald Newman (Virginia); daughters, Kelly Mitchell (Tim ), Kim Rader (Daryl), Kathy Smith (Wesley); grandchildren, Preston Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Hannah Herndon (Ryland), Helen Rader, Walker Smith and Weston Smith.
The family would like to thank the wonderful neighbors that were always there to help and checking in, Hospice, especially Jane and Kissie, along with the private sitters.
At Bob’s request, there will be no service held in his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374 in his name.
Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
