Emergency responders were dispatched for a vehicle accident around 6:45 pm on US Highway 15-501 near the exit for Vass-Carthage Road.
One vehicle was overturned on its roof and one vehicle was off of the roadway down an embankment and into a tree.
According to fire officials two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance with injuries that were not life-threatening.
US Highway 15-501 was blocked to traffic in both directions while the injured were assisted and the roadway cleared.
Responding were units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff's Office, Whispering Pines Police Department, and the Carthage Police Department.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation as of this report.
This was the second serious accident that has resulted in 15-501 being closed in Carthage today.
