Roy “Max” Kellis, 92, of Eagle Springs, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Max was born January 13, 1932 in Montgomery County, NC to the late Rora Edward Kellis and the late Edna Muse Kellis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three wives, Mildred, Beatrice, and Jessie; three brothers: Dallas, Earl, and Glenn; and two sisters: Betty and LaRue.
He is survived by his son Rora Max Kellis, Jr. (Helen); his sister, Ruby Halter of Arkansas; grandchildren, Lora Kellis Denning (Jason) of Carthage, NC; Cynthia Diane O’Hara of Riegelwood, NC; and Amanda Michelle Kellis (Janny) of Fredericksburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Breea Foth Taggett (Wayne), Haley Foth, Khara Foth, and Gage Steele, all of Riegelwood, NC; Lydia Denning and Aiden Denning of Carthage, NC.
Max proudly served his country for 4 years in the US Army. He then worked for 37 years with Gulistan Carpets in Aberdeen. After retiring he worked for the Moore County Solid Waste Facility in Eagle Springs. He was a member of American Legion Post 296. He enjoyed gardening and watching things grow. In particular, he liked to ride the back roads and keep a check on farm crops. He was a member of Middle Cross Baptist Church and will be dearly missed by his family, church family and community.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Middle Cross Baptist Church, 440 Lucas Road, West End, NC 27376. A funeral service officiated by Rev. David Reynolds will be begin at 12:00 PM. Following a meal at the church the family will hold a committal service at West End Cemetery, 445 Knox Lane, West End, NC 27376 at 2:00PM. A livestream of the service will be available.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Max’s name to The American Legion Department of North Carolina Charities, Inc., Attn: McDuffie Project, PO Box 26657, Raleigh, NC 27611-6657.
