Ruth Oliver Assad, age 88, died July 1, 2024 with her children by her side. Ruth was Born May 1, 1936 in Moore County to Samuel H. and Ula Oliver. She attended Meredith College and UNC on Chapel Hill.
She taught at West End and Vass - Lakeview Schools. She later worked 25 years for Moore County Social Services and then worked 17 years at Penick Village in Southern Pines.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, spending time with her 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and playing chess.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Elizabeth Oliver; brother, John Samuel Oliver and son, Christopher Scott Assad.
She is survived by daughters, Kim Herrin Crawford (Al) of Loganville, GA, and Ashley Assad McKinney (David) of Cameron and son, Daniel Andrew Assad (Jamie) of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also, 6 grandchildren, Webber Howe and Cody Howe of Pinebluff, NC Daniella Howe Selfridge of Dayton, OH, Kaitlyn Crawford of Cumming, GA, Kelsey Crawford of Loganville, GA and Carli Simms of Columbia, SC.
The family is having a private remembrance and dinner later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to FirstHealth Hospice House.
Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst.
