SFC, Joshua William Motta, age 50, of Pinehurst passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Ft. Bragg from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. 


Born in Plymouth County, MA he was a son of Kurt Motta and Betsy Frost. Josh grew up in Wareham, MA and graduated from Wareham High School. He joined the US Army in 1995 and served 20 years retiring from Ft. Bragg in 2015. He received his bachelor’s degree from AMU and was currently working on his masters degree.  He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and many other service medals. He was currently working on base as a Special Forces Training Specialist. 


Josh is survived by his wife Teresa Stencel Motta; children Jakob Motta and wife Sam of Vass, Emma Motta and Shelby Motta both of Carthage, Andrew Vandevander and James Vandevander both of Pinehurst; sister Kirsten Micoulin of Lexington, KY; grandson Kooper Motta.

 

The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home on Sunday, July 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 23 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a  committal service with full military honors at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake at 12:00 p.m. 


Josh, You were our strongman. You were our google. You were our in house doctor. You were our photographer. You were tough on the outside but soft as a teddy bear inside. You were always there to cheer us on. You were a great Father, bonus Dad and it was so fun watching you be a Grandpa. But most of all, you were a great man and we will love you forever.
