Sheriff Ronnie Fields announces an investigation following a shooting death in the Carthage area of Moore County.
On May 3, 2024 at approximately 8:15 pm sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of trespassing at a private residence along Dowd Road in Carthage, North Carolina. Upon arriving, deputies discovered one male subject deceased from an apparent gunshot wound following an encounter with the property owner.
Sheriff’s detectives and forensic personnel responded and are conducting an investigation.
Additional details are being withheld at this time pending further investigation and notification to the next of kin.
There is no evidence to suggest any immediate threat to the community.
