The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Ahmir Talieb McKayhan, 23 years of age, of Southern Pines, North Carolina for Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Resist, Delay, Obstruct a Public Officer.
On March 22, 2024 at 5:17 p.m., members of the Southern Pines Police Department's Directed Patrol Unit attempted to serve an outstanding warrant for arrest on Mr. McKayhan in the 700 Block of S. Stephens Street. While speaking to McKayhan who was seated in a vehicle, officers observed him pull a gun from his jacket pocket in an attempt to conceal it in the vehicle.
When removing McKayhan from the vehicle and placing him under arrest, McKayhan resisted by pulling away and attempting to flee on foot from officers.
Ahmir Talieb McKayhan, after arrest, appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center under no bond pending a hearing in Moore County Court on April 18, 2024.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
