Sue Davis McDuffie, 90, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 27th, 2024, surrounded by her family.


She was best known as Mama, Grannie or Aunt Boo to those who loved her most.


Sue was born on September 29th, 1933, in Moore County to the late Dalton Harrison Davis and Sallie Cockman Davis.


Sue graduated from Elise High School in 1951. She attended Watts Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from Hamlet School of Nursing in 1955. She served her profession and community for 41 years as a registered nurse working at what was then Moore Regional Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse and house supervisor. She also worked at several family practices and completed her career with the NC Department of Corrections as South Central Area Nursing Supervisor


After retirement, she joined her husband at McDuffie’s Appliance and Plumbing Parts for the next 25 years.


Throughout her life she was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She served on the Administrative Council, President of the United Methodist Women, Sunday School Superintendent and taught the Young Adult Sunday School class for many years. 

Sue was an active participant in her community. She was a charter member of the North Moore Lions Club, served on the Nursing Home Advisory Committee, and enjoyed volunteering at Foothills Outdoors Events. Sue’s big smile was well known to area runners as she manned water stations at many events. She was a force to be reckoned with as well as a joyful presence in every room.


In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William ”Bill” Nelson McDuffie; sister Shirley Davis McAnulty; sister-in-law Catherine McDuffie McDonald (Charles) and brother-in-laws Norman McDuffie (Evelyn) and Fred McDuffie.


Sue is survived by her son, Dr. William Nelson McDuffie Jr. and wife, Dr. Lynne Loftin McDuffie; daughter Daltina McDuffie Peele and husband Wade Peele; grandchildren: Ross Peele, Dalton Peele and River McDuffie; brother Dalton Davis (Linda) and brother-in-law Bill McAnulty as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.


The family especially wants to thank her many in-home caregivers who she always thought of as just spending time with friends.


Funeral service will be 4:00 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2024  at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Reverend Victor Hill and Reverend Sam Grist officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the church.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.


Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 1535 N Moore Rd. Robbins, NC 27325 or to a charity of your choice.
