Two Found Dead In Overnight Fire Outside Carthage

Fatal Carthage Fire

Emergency responders were dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 1400 block of Union Church Road outside of Carthage just after midnight.


A person driving by reportedly saw the fire and called 911. The first arriving firefighter reported a single wide mobile home that was fully involved.


According to Carthage Fire Chief Brian Tyner once firefighters were able to knock down the flames it was determined that there are two people still in the home who are decreased.


The two male victims were found on opposite ends of the small home.


As of this report fire officials remain on the scene mopping up hot spots.


Union Church Road was closed to traffic in both directions for an extended time period overnight due to this incident.


Multiple investigators from several agencies are on scene to begin an investigation into tonight's blaze which totally destroyed the home.


Responding tonight are units with Carthage Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire Rescue, Eastwood Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Medical Examiners Office, Moore County Sheriff's Office, Carthage Police Department and the NC State Bureau Of Investigation.



Later in the morning ATF also arrived to assist local officials with this investigation.


As of 8:00 am officials remain on the scene continuing the investigation into the cause of last night's fire.


Law enforcement stated that the victims were both adult males, and both men are being sent for an autopsy. Neither man has been Identified as of this report.
